Her comedy dives into the human condition, exploring dark and thought-provoking themes, particularly around mixed-race identity and unique aspects of Japanese culture. In 2023, Yurié won the Tokyo International Comedy Festival Competition, earning the title Queen of Kanto. Through her art and performances, she’s passionate about bridging the gap between East and West.
Tokyo’s Roast Master, JJ is the Commissioner of Roast Battle Tokyo, the only officially sanctioned Roast Battle show in Asia and Tokyo’s #1 comedy show for seven years running. He is a co-founder of Tokyo Comedy Bar and the legendary Shanghai Comedy Club. JJ has worked with or opened for comics as varied as Bill Bailey, Doug Stanhope, Jackie Fabulous, Kim Congdon, Neal Brennan, and many more. Known for his sharp wit and big dad energy, his humor ranges from dark to whimsical to downright absurd—because, let’s face it, being a big guy in Japan is comedy gold.
Jon Sabay is a Tokyo-based Filipino-American comedian and actor. A regular headliner and host at Tokyo Comedy Bar, Jon runs diverse shows like Roles for Initiative, Tokyo’s only live TTRPG actual-play show; O-NO, an improvised stand-up showcase; and Bob and Jon Make a Movie, a two-person long-form improv act. His brainchild, Roles for Initiative, has recently expanded with a monthly show in Los Angeles. Jon’s work often explores immigration, xenophobia, mental health, and being a huge nerd and soft boy.
Shota Saimu is a rising star in Japan’s stand-up comedy scene, performing regularly in both English and Japanese. Known for his candid honesty and playful silliness, Shota placed third in a national comedy competition while in college and made numerous TV appearances. After graduating, he joined the prestigious Yoshimoto Kogyo, performing manzai as part of a duo. Later, he transitioned to Western-style stand-up comedy, honing his craft in Canada before returning to Japan. Shota has been featured at the Tokyo International Comedy Festival and placed in the top three at both the English-language King of Kanto Comedy Competition and Japan’s Comedy Grand Prix. He co-hosts the Snacktime show and podcast with Yurié Collins and is a favorite in the World Roast Battle League.
