Insider Tips

Tsugaike Kogen Ski Resort is another popular ski resort suited particularly for beginners and families due to its safe terrain. Tsugaike also features night skiing giving you a different experience on the slopes with a fantastic atmosphere. Tsugaike has several ski schools offering lessons in English, Japanese and Chinese and has the widest and most mellow slopes in Hakuba. When beginners find their legs on the lower slopes, they can take the gondola to the top of the mountain and ride a green run all the way to the base of the resort.

Advanced Riders

Tsugaike has only 1 black run for advanced riders but the resort is well known for its backcountry access which is permitted by the ski patrol. Tsugaike also has several terrain parks with the best being at the top of the resort which is best later in the season. It also has excellent lift accessed tree skiing. The area is gated and requires attending a short lecture (20 minutes) where you acquire an arm band to enter the terrain.

Tsugaike Village

In recent years, several new hotels and hostels have opened in Tsugaike, many of which have ski in ski out access. The village itself, however, continues to reflect the traditional Japanese style of holiday where guests ski, onsen, have dinner and sleep. There are only a few night life options in this area. Those looking for more activity in the evening should stay in the villages around Happo One and take the 15 minute shuttle bus to Tsugaike (9k).
